Background
The customer had a shipment of six containers containing decorative materials to be put up for a Mid-Autumn Festival celebration in Chinatown, Singapore. The decorative materials consisted of some 900 lanterns, including a towering 12m-tall centrepiece depicting Chang-E, the Chinese goddess of the moon.
Challenge
The customer found out that the vessel that their shipment was meant to be on was delayed, and they faced the risk of not having the materials to put up in time for the lighting ceremony. In fact, the already delayed vessel was expected to be further held up due to a suspected COVID-19 case onboard.
The Solution
The customer quickly got in touch with PSA Cargo Solutions Southeast Asia (PSA Cargo Solutions) for assistance. With support from the PSA team from Beibu Gulf-PSA International Container Terminal (BPCT), containers were re-nominated onto an earlier carrier.
Top stowage of the containers was arranged at the load port to facilitate priority discharge of the containers upon the vessel’s arrival in Singapore. Operations were expedited to facilitate the vessel’s fast turnaround at Qinzhou and the vessel was given a berth on arrival in Singapore.
Conclusion
With PSA’s intervention, the six time-critical containers were discharged and delivered just in time for the festive celebration. The customer was deeply appreciative of PSA Cargo Solutions’ work.
